
Capturing Chemistry
Gold Coast students in Years 10-12 are invited to register for a photography workshop covering the basics on digital photography. Students can then take photographs at the Gold Coast Science Fair illustrating the theme, Chemistry in the 21st Century.
The best photographs will be selected and exhibited in the Techno Zone at the fair and the winner of Best Photograph will be announced onstage on Sunday afternoon. Creative Industries Gold Coast, a school-business-community partnership formed under the DEEWR Partnership Broker Program, is conducting the workshop and will supervise the photography.

Ingenuity Afloat
The Senior Solar Boat Challenge will motor into life on the lake at Bond Uni. The Solar Boat Challenge is designed to encourage students to work together, using science and engineering principles relating to solar energy and energy efficiency. Come down and have a turn at steering the boats and learn how you can get involved.

CELEBRITY SPORTS CHALLENGE
Human Performance Centre brings you the Gold Coast Schools versus Celebs Sports Challenge.
Cheer for your school or favourite celebrity including Nathan Friend (Rugby League player – Titans) with his mates from the Titans plus many more!
Time/Date: Saturday at 1pm
Venue: Sports Arena
Battle of the Bands
Bands from local schools will do battle for the title of Best Local Band at a special live evening concert, sure to be a highlight of the fair.
Bands will be judged on originality, rhythm and execution.
Come along and support your local school, or just relax and enjoy an evening of great entertainment. You just might witness the discovery of the Gold Coast’s next musical stars!

Plot a Winning Course
All visitors to the Gold Coast Science Fair 2011 will be given an orienteering questionnaire on entry. Pick one up and begin orienteering around the fairgrounds. Three lucky winners will be drawn from completed and correct entries.
Time/Date: throughout the fair – entries due by 3pm Sunday.

Surviving Science
Teams of three or four people compete in a series of science experiments and challenges at the Science Survivor challenge, led by members of the Queensland Academy of Health Sciences.
Winners will be judged on their use of scientific processes and outcomes.
Teams race against the clock and each other to be the ultimate science survivor.

A Feast of Kitchen Science
Students will compete in the Secondary Schools Culinary Challenge for the title of Catering Student of the Year.
Students are judged against set criteria and have the choice of creating a main course, dessert or cake.
The winning students will be invited to compete in the International Secondary Schools Culinary Challenge, to be held at Kai Ping
Culinary School, Taipei in 2012.
